There are various situations to consider before adopting a life long friend. It can happen to the best of us. You see a gorgeous french bulldog or malinois whose tail seems to be wagging just for you. You take one look, and the next thing you know, you're walking down the toy aisle at the supermarket.
If you're like most of us, falling in love with a pet is easy. And no wonder! Sharing your home with a four-legged friend can be one of life's greatest joys. Dogs, cats, and other pets give us unconditional loyalty and acceptance, provide constant companionship, and even help relieve stress after a hard day's work.
Adopting a pet is not a decision to be made lightly. Many of a shelter or rescue’s homeless animals are puppies and kittens, victims of irresponsible breeding. But there are at least as many adult or senior animals who were left behind by owners that passed away without a plan for the pet, moved to non pet friendly housing, had a baby, changed employment or simply underestimated the commitment needed for pet ownership.
Part of our mission is to help avoid these types of mistakes when adopting, and to help maintain responsible pet ownership with appropriate support, resources, and education. Please understand this is why we work so hard to place the right pet in the right home.
